Zone Control Systems in Bellevue, WA
What happens when you turn on the central heater or air conditioner? Air flows through the ducts and reaches all of the vents throughout the house. This is a simple comfort delivery system. But is it efficient? Do all the rooms need conditioned air? Do all the rooms need the same level of comfort? It’s rare to need all parts of your house heated or cooled at the same time, but the standard HVAC system doesn’t give you the opportunity to pick and choose.
With a zone control system in place, you have that power. S&L Mechanical Heating and Cooling can equip your home with an HVAC system that divides it into separate zones, allowing you to choose which parts receive heating or cooling. Call us for service in Bellevue, WA or the surrounding areas.
How Zone Control Systems Operate
To create zoning for a home requires outfitting the ventilation system with a series of dampers. These dampers are set into the ducts so they can open and close off passages to the room vents. Each damper has its own thermostat for the zone it controls, and these satellite thermostats connect to a central control panel that can operate all of them.
As temperature requests come from the satellite thermostats, the dampers in the ductwork open and close to allow movement of air to those rooms without permitting pressure to build up inside the ventilation system. A variable–speed blower fan ramps its power up and down to modulate energy use accordingly.
The Benefits of Zone Control
A zone control system offers many advantages, some which you may not have thought about:
- Energy Savings: The major benefit of using zone control is how it reduces the amount of energy used to heat and cool the house. This is especially true for large homes with frequently unoccupied rooms, such as guest rooms. There’s no need to expend energy to condition empty spaces around the house.
- Customizable Comfort: Not all rooms require the same temperature levels. A kitchen may need more cooling, while an infant’s room needs more heating. Zone control gives the homeowner the power to customize temperature levels based on the room.
- Personal Comfort: Zone control can solve family squabbles. Each person in the household can enjoy the comfort level they want in their room without affecting the rest of the house.
- An Even Spread of Heating and Cooling: When properly used, zone control creates an evener spread of comfort through a house that eliminates hot and cold spots.
